Analytical company Rosinformugol released figures on Russia’s production rates last week, which saw the potential coal giant increase production by 15.1 million tonnes in the first half of 2003.
“Coal production increased 14% year-on-year to 71 million tonnes in the Kuznetsk coal basin, 4.4% to 6.639 million tonnes in Pechora, and 28.9% to 17.679 million tonnes in Kansko-Achinsk,” Interfax reported.
The only region to report a drop was the Donetsk coal basin which experienced a fall of 20.1% to 3.449 million tonnes due to company liquidations and coal sale problems.
Russia holds the world's second largest coal reserves with more than 50 percent of coal production in western Siberia.
